Occurring in the Kartik month’s Krishna Paksha’s fourth day, i.e. on Sankashti Chaturthi, Karva Chauth is one of the most popular festivals celebrated by married women and young girls of marriageable age across the country. In 2019, Karva Chauth occurs on Thursday, 17 October.
Married women fast & celebrate this festival to seek marital bliss and for the long, healthy life of their husbands. Teenagers or young girls observe this fast to seek the desired husband. This fast is to be followed strictly, without drinking water or consuming any type of food or fruits until the fast is broken after praying to the Moon.
On this day, Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati are worshiped as well as the Moon and Lord Kartikeya. On the day of Karva Chauth, Gauri Pujan observed by married women as well as unmarried girls hold great significance.
